Circuit training

Today I faced my fears and returned to the circuit track.

It was my first complete circuits race, and first return after my original debut three years ago - which ended badly... with a trip to A&E and fear of bells and dérailleurs.

I'm not sure today's course at Odd down in Bath is much safer than the Portsmouth track I crashed on in 2013; but opting for a 2upTT behind the pack was great fun, great cornering training, with some strong BSCC team building thrown in.

I'm looking forward to facing my demons again soon, and working my way up to finishing in the bunch.

It was great riding with a team member. I wouldn't have finished without her.

It was foolish to think I could race on base fitness alone, especially on such a tactical course.

It was a very windy day, so knowing our 2upTT didn't get lapped by the main group provides a sense of satisfaction, which softens the blow of coming joint last.

My race partner did a great job of keeping us going, doing more than her share on the front, and shouting encouragement when I wanted to give up.

I gave her the jersey I lent her in the hope she'll ride some more for the club as a fellow team mate.
